Scene Editing Breakdown

Hi There !
In this blog i will Analyse and Breakdown a scene that i have edited in "La Haine Video"

The Scene :

i will break the clips and show the cuts i used to have this final scene, and the meaning behind it.

Clip 1
clip 1 (Gun Shot)

Clip 2
Clip 2 (Hand Gun Shot)

Clip 3
Clip 3 (Smoke Overlay)

Clip 4
Clip 4 (Eiffel Tower Shutting Down)

Clip 5
Clip 5 (Vinz Sad Eyes)

Five clips to make one scene. But how i will combine them to present the idea in my mind.

The idea is represented in how the violence in the street between the cops and society affect our main character (vinz) and what he felt inside.

Ps: Read my Cuts & Transitions Blog to understand more the meaning of the cuts and how they work

First cut :
Match Cut (also smash cut)

This Match Cut between the gun shot in the street and vinz moving his hand like a gun as a sign of violence show us that "Hate breeds Hate".
It's also a Smash Cut when u put the sound on by using the sound of gun shot between the two clips.

Second cut :

After vinz shot we cut to a view of Eiffel Tower (a reference to Paris and France) shutting down and this indicates the effect of violence on the streets of paris, it lose it's light and glow.

Third cut :
Cross-Dissolve

The last Cut is a Cross-Dissolve where the view of Eiffel Towet shutting down fade out to a close up of vinz face with sad eyes like he is watching paris burn and he can't do nothing .

Final Resault :
Adding Smoke Overlay

Last thing i added a smoke clip and use it as overlay. It start in the second clip and match with the cross-dissolve to finally give us a look of paris and vinz sharing the same sorrow ( he is feeling the burn of the streets, the hell, the hate and the rage inside of him )

I hope i was able to explain this scene clearly to you. if you liked this Breakdown share it with your editor friend and tell me what you think about it.
